The Demographic, a band

“More bombastic fun from this duo from Northampton, MA – both a full-length and an EP!”
— John MacLeod, Comic Rawk Top 21 Albums of 2021

Hiatus (2021) was recorded and mixed in Easthampton, Massachusetts by Grant Wicks at Uncanny Audio — mostly in 2019, with sporadic overdub and mixing sessions before/during the pandemic. We brought aboard bass powerhouse Marc Seedorf (Mark Mulcahy sideman, engineer, Dinosaur Jr. guitar tech, and a woodworker taboot) to turn us into a trio. Whoa! The album was mastered by Carl Saff at Saff Mastering. Album artwork by Standard Design.

Hiatus covers a lot of territory, shifting from the mountain-crushing “Wolves” to the rusty coffee can filled with spoons that is “Hole In The Sea,” from the Bob Mouldiness of “Descent” to the Nirvanishness of “Everybody Leave,” from the wicked evil “Sad Satan” to the storm-battered coast of “Clear Them Decks.”

01. Ascent – No way to calculate the sum of me and you (music video)
02. Ruins – I watched it all parade away (music video)
03. Hole In The Sea – I see no hope in tragedy (music video)
04. Break Your Heart – If you think you know the words, you can try to sing along (music video)
05. Everybody Leave – But they’ll touch you anyway (music video)
06. Clear Them Decks – I hear a bell, I hear a bell (music video)
07. Deepest, Darkest – I will pull him close to me
08. Descent – Feeling sure I’m feeling old
09. Sad Satan – There was a little tool shed (music video)
10. Wolves – Take the ash that remains and push it down my throat (music video)

The I HATE US EP

“The collection of songs is short and it’s over before you know it. So I listened to it again and then dove into their Bandcamp page to further indulge.” — Jennifer Levesque, The Valley Advocate

The weird little brother of Hiatus, I Hate Us is a collection of tracks from the 2019 Uncanny Audio sessions. These tracks are available for streaming & download, and are included as unlisted bonus tracks on the CD version of Hiatus.

1. Metal Quest — An instrumental for unholy rituals (music video)
2. Post-Encore — A kinda sloppy studio take of a song from our debut album, 2011’s Verse Chorus Curse, because we wanted a recording of the live trio version
3. Nowhere — Get in your car and drive, hey (music video)
4. Hymn 43 — Tuuuuuulllll (recording session video)
5. Cost/Benefit — see ‘Post-Encore’
6. I Think I’m Dead — A suitcase-drum-kit acoustic recording Tom & Sturg made in 2015 (live video)

Music: The Demographic / Lyrics: Tom Pappalardo (Object Recording, ASCAP) except for “”Sad Satan” (written by either the devil or Led Zeppelin, depending on who you ask).”Hymn 43″ by Jethro Tull, written by Ian Anderson. Recorded and engineered by Grant Wicks at Uncanny Audio. Mastered by Carl Saff.
